Olympia Fields began as a golfer's dream in 1913. Charles Beach, founder of the Olympia Fields Country Club and eventually first president of the Village of Olympia Fields (incorporated in 1927), envisioned the Club and the Village as a paradise for lovers of nature and sport.

In its infancy, Olympia fields Country Club quickly became the largest private country club in America. By 1925, the club had four golf courses, with plans for a fifth course in the offing. Tom Bendelow designed course #1. Tom Bendelow with William Watson designed the #2 course. William Watson designed course #3, and Willie Park Jr., a famed British Open Champion who is also credited as the man who first put grooves on irons and known as one of the best putters of his generation, designed the #4 course. Fred Krueger did the actual construction on Course #4. The fourth course quickly became recognized as one of the best golf courses in the world and is still ranked as #30 by Golf Digest.

Thanks to its well-chosen location (in a woods served by a commuter train line), the Village has grown and prospered as a country club community in a region of golf courses (6 in the immediate area) and continues to be called 'home' by a number of celebrities, including a Grammy-winning musician and a World Champion basketball player. The Village of Olympia Fields, Illinois is located in the far south Chicago suburbs and is just a 27-mile drive from Chicago's downtown Loop business and shopping district. . . but you would never know the city is so close.

In the center of one of the warmest neighborhoods of Olympia Fields can be found its own K-2nd grade school. Arcadia School is located in the center of a residential neighborhood.

Post Secondary Education:
Olympia Fields is an easy commute of Prairie State College. Prairie State is one of the premier community colleges in the state. Governors State University is also with in a short drive. GSU is a university offering a wide variety of programs and curriculums.

METRA train service has two stations in the Village which makes for easy access to many universities located in Chicago. The average commute to down town Chicago from Olympia Fields is 45 minutes. From there, bus service is available to most locations.

The Village currently contracts library services through the Park Forest Library System.

The Park District own and maintains 117 acres of parks and open space, encompasses 11 park sites, and with baseball fields, soccer fields, playgrounds, tennis courts, trails, sledding hills, Disc Golf, and adventure center facilities located in the various park sites. The Olympia Fields Park District is one of the only 28 out of over 350 park districts throughout the state of Illinois to earn the IPRA/IAPD distinguished Agency Award.
